Zoo animals (no not my kids..)

Mckade and I actually had a whole day off together, so we decided to take advantage of the still warm weather and take the kiddos to the zoo!  Lily did not want to go at first, I think she was afraid the animals could get out of their cages and get her. Once we got there all she cared about was seeing a giraffe. Didn't want anything to do with the monkeys or elephants, "I just really want to see a giraffe mom."

So here she is with her giraffe. After she got to see that she was more excited about the other animals

Jet and Jax had to view the animals from the stroller

Tiger. Can you tell she's a little afraid of it? I don't blame her, they're a lot bigger than you think!

I got volunteered to ride the carousel with Lily. (blah motion sick. I'm a wuss)

Measuring up

We attempted to get the boys out of the stroller and of course they took off running in opposite directions.  McKade went after one, I went after the other, and Lily was left standing bawling in the middle. It's ridiculous, we can"t take them anywhere! They did have fun at the little playground place, but it was definitely exhausting for us chasing them around. Other parents were sitting on the bench relaxing, watching their kids play, and seriously laughing at us trying to keep track of ours.

A few hours at the zoo with these wild animals was definitely enough for us!

Nope, it's not chocolate...

I know I've told some of you about this before. The boys have been awful about eating things off the ground. I almost never take them outside by myself because it's too hard to watch them alone. If I do, they usually end up with a mouthful of dirt, rocks, mulch from the flower beds, and even the occasional potato bug (Jax). Well they were super onery (teething, boo!), and McKade wasn't going to be home from work for another hour. So I decided to take them out back, and this is what happened...

That's Jax with a delicious mouthful of dirt from the sandbox

Jet surprisingly didn't eat any, he's usually the worst when it comes to eating dirt.

It did make them happy and stop the blasted whining and crying, so I guess it was worth the mess ;)

Preschool!

Lily had her first day of preschool today. She was super excited to go too. She totally surprised me and went right in without me and without any tears at all! She is getting so big!

She loves her new backpack! She pointed out to me that it's purple, "like Dora's"

One year stats

The boys had their one year appointment. Let me just ask why the hell a PEDIATRICIANS exam room is not baby prof. I was exhausted by the time we left trying to keep them out of drawers and away from uncovered outlets. Anyway, here are the stats...

Jet: 20 lbs 7 oz  30.5 inches
Jax: 20 lbs 14 oz  30.5 inches

Birthday bash

Here are some pics from the boys first birthday...They did NOT like all the attention at first, but soon warmed up to the idea of opening presents! Thanks to all our family for helping us celebrate these two little guys!

The decorations...

I sent McKade to get the balloons while I was getting ready...this is what he brought back. He didn't notice what they said, and I didn't either until I started blowing them up!

The presents...

new "pay pay's" (blankies) were the favorite present. These boys love their blankies!

 The cake

These boys were a DISASTER after eating cake. I had to strip them down and wash them off in the sink!

One Year!

I can't believe my little guys are one today! The last year has really flown by, probably because it's been so busy. It really seems like they were just born a little while ago, not a whole year ago! I'm kind of sad about it really. I was looking at the boys the other day, and they just looked so big! They are looking more like little boys and less like babies and that makes me sad. Everyone who has twins told us the first year was hell and not to worry because it gets better. I'll admit it was pretty rough, I'm not sure it was hell though. Of course we've had tons of help from family to make it a little easier.

When I was in my last trimester I was really sensitive and emotional about what I looked like. Really you couldn't blame me considering all the hits to my self esteem I took daily. Random strangers would comment about how big I was, and how I must be due any day (even when I had two months left), or how I must be having twins because I was so big. What if I wasn't jerks? And who says that? Isn't it common knowledge that you don't comment on a pregnant ladies size? ( I know you're feeling me Jamie) Anyway I've had a year to get over it and so for purposes of the blog I'm brave enough to post the only belly picture in existence of the twins. This was at 38 weeks, right before we left for the hospital to be induced. I realize I was pretty big... but looking at it now I don't think I look as big as I felt.  But notice the expression on my face...I was MISERABLE.

I'm so grateful that I had no complications with the pregnancy or the birth. Everyone was perfectly healthy, the boys didn't have to go to the NICU or even the special care nursery at all, and they came home when I did two days later. I was shocked beyond words (well, maybe except that one sware when the doc did the ultrasound) when I found out we were having twins, but I wouldn't change it!
(I'll post pics from their party tonight)

Family Pics

We had family pictures a few weeks ago and I just got them back today. Not everyone is smiling perfectly, but I'm realistic. They turned out pretty good with the ornery kids we had to work with... we actually had to retake the twins pictures the next day just out on the lawn.

Mirroring each other...funny. I can't believe these little guys will be one next month!

P.S.- If Lacey ever reads this, I think you gave me the wrong email address. Anyway, mine is skcolledge@gmail if you want to add me to your blog! :)
